Special Casual Leave for Teachers to Vote | Telangana Elections 2026

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC) has issued an important communication regarding the grant of Special Casual Leave (SPL) to teachers and government employees who are not on municipal election duty but need to travel to their native places to cast their vote.

Background of the TSEC Letter

The official letter was issued by G Lingya Naik, IAS, Secretary, Telangana State Election Commission, dated 08 February 2026. The letter refers to a representation submitted by Sri Katkam Ramesh, President, Telangana Rashtra Teachers’ Federation (TRTF).

The representation highlighted a major concern faced by teachers and employees during municipal elections.

Problem Faced by Teachers and Employees

Many teachers and government employees:

  • Are not assigned municipal election duty
  • Are registered voters in different towns or cities
  • Need to travel long distances to exercise their voting right
  • Are unable to vote due to official duties and lack of leave

This situation results in many employees losing their constitutional right to vote.

Demand for Special Casual Leave (SPL)

To address this issue, the Telangana Rashtra Teachers’ Federation (TRTF) requested the Election Commission to grant Special Casual Leave (SPL) so that all eligible teachers and employees can cast their votes without any difficulty.

TSEC Response and Instructions

The Telangana State Election Commission acknowledged the representation and forwarded it to:

  • All District Collectors
  • District Election Authorities (DEAs)

The Commission instructed the concerned authorities to take necessary action as per guidelines and law.

Why This Order Is Important

This communication is significant because:

  • It protects the voting rights of teachers and employees
  • It ensures maximum voter participation in municipal elections
  • It recognizes the difficulties faced by working employees
  • It strengthens democratic values

What Teachers and Employees Should Do

Teachers and government employees who need to travel to vote should:

  1. Contact their Head of Office
  2. Submit a request for Special Casual Leave (SPL)
  3. Refer to the TSEC communication dated 08-02-2026

Conclusion

The Telangana State Election Commission’s initiative is a positive step towards ensuring that no eligible voter is denied their right due to official responsibilities. Teachers and employees are advised to stay informed and make use of this provision to actively participate in the democratic process.
